As a different way to explore a new region, there’s nothing better than pedalling your way around. You can make the most of hidden gems along the way and take time to enjoy those incredible views. It’s also another way to connect with the land and its people.

The Wairarapa, a large geographical area located at the lower right-hand corner of the North Island, is only an hour’s drive or train ride from Wellington and just over an hour from Palmerston North. It has quiet, rolling rural roads that are perfect for road cyclists, a distinctive cycling-the-vines experience, and a new mountain-bike park that’s already attracting a different demographic of rider.

In addition, it’s home to the Rimutaka Cycle Trail (RCT) which opened as part of Nga Haerenga – The New Zealand Cycle Trail in October 2013.
